Privacy Policy
The Journey Therapy is a psychotherapy practice based in Kailua, Hawaii. This policy explains how information is handled when you browse this website, contact the practice, or submit a professional referral. It does not replace clinical consent documents or the privacy notices that apply to treatment records.
Information you share
The contact form asks for your name, email address, optional phone number, preferred reply method, and message. Please keep inquiries brief. Do not include diagnoses, detailed symptoms, therapy notes, insurance identification numbers, or other sensitive records in a general inquiry.
The provider referral form asks for the referring professional’s contact information, the client’s name and date of birth, and information about symptoms, ongoing care, medical clearance, and the referral. Providers should share only what is necessary and ensure they have the appropriate permission or other lawful basis to disclose it. Contact the practice to arrange an appropriate secure channel before sending sensitive clinical information.
How information is used and shared
Inquiry and referral information is used to respond to you, discuss services, assess next steps, and coordinate a requested referral. Submitting a form does not establish a therapist–client relationship or guarantee an appointment.
Website form submissions are forwarded to the practice’s email inbox. Hosting and email service providers process information to deliver those messages and operate the website. Information may also be disclosed when authorized by you or when permitted or required by applicable law. Clinical disclosures are subject to the additional rules that apply to health information.
Website technology and external services
Hosting services may process technical information such as your IP address, browser type, requested pages, and request times for website delivery and security. The public website currently has no built-in advertising trackers or analytics scripts. A session cookie is used for the restricted staff administration area.
This website loads Google Fonts. Your browser connects to Google to retrieve font files, which sends Google your IP address and technical request information. Google states that its Fonts service does not set cookies. See Google’s explanation of Fonts privacy.
Links to Amazon and other external websites take you to services with their own privacy policies. Book purchases are handled by the retailer, not through this website. You can manage cookies and other browser permissions in your browser settings.
Email and security
The website forms send email; they are not a secure clinical messaging system. Email and internet communication carry privacy risks, and no online transmission or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure. Please call if you would prefer to discuss another way to communicate. A form’s consent checkbox does not remove the practice’s privacy or security obligations.
Do not use these forms for emergencies or urgent clinical needs. In an emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.
Retention and your choices
You can browse without submitting a form. You may contact the practice to ask about information you have provided, request a correction or deletion, or discuss a preferred contact method. Identity verification may be needed before a request can be fulfilled.
Information should be kept only as long as needed for its purpose and applicable legal or professional requirements. Clinical records, required documentation, and information subject to legal obligations may need to be retained even when deletion is requested.
Clinical privacy and Hawaii requirements
This website policy is separate from a HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices. Where HIPAA applies, that notice explains uses of protected health information, patient rights, and the practice’s duties. Contact Bethany to request the applicable clinical privacy notice and discuss record access, corrections, confidential communications, or privacy concerns. You may also learn about your rights under HIPAA.
Applicable Hawaii confidentiality and security-breach notification requirements also need to be followed. Any required breach notification depends on the law and circumstances; this policy does not waive your rights. Questions about information relating to a minor should be discussed directly with the practice, as access and consent rights depend on the circumstances and applicable law.
Questions or concerns
Contact Bethany Crowley at beth@thejourneytherapy.com or 808-277-2273. Please do not include sensitive clinical details in an initial email. You can raise a privacy concern without retaliation and may also contact the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights about a possible HIPAA violation.
Policy updates
Updates will be posted here with a revised date. Material changes to clinical privacy practices may require a separate updated clinical notice; changing this website policy does not replace that process.
