Why are my thoughts the loudest at night when all I want to do is go to sleep. If you're lying awake feeling overwhelmed, anxious and trapped with urges to binge. Your mind turns the volume up when the world goes quiet. Your day gets replayed in your head. You cringe about the things you did, and said and then

the urge takes over, engaging in the behavior feels like opening a pressure valve. For five seconds, you get to breathe. The replaying thoughts stop, and the world halts.

And then comes the crash.

Suddenly you’re lying there in the dark with a racing heart, a sick stomach, and a wave of shame so thick it chokes you.

How did I get here again? What is wrong with me? I’ll just skip breakfast tomorrow to make up for this.

That middle-of-the-night shame tells you to punish yourself tomorrow. But punishing yourself—restricting, overworking, hiding—is the exact thing that guarantees you’ll be sitting in this same dark room, feeling this same pain, tomorrow night.

If you are reading this in the dark, please hear this: You are not alone and you are not a failure. You don't need to fix your life or figure out tomorrow right now. You just need to get through tonight gently.

Put your hand on your chest. Turn on a soft light. Sit up and sip cold water. Tell your racing brain, "We don't have to figure all this out right now."

You aren't broken. You're just exhausted. And you don't have to carry the weight of the dark hours all by yourself.

Gentle Reminders:
  • "Take a soft breath. What just happened was an urge taking over,  it is not a measure of who you are or your worth."

  • "Your body is not your enemy right now. It is simply working hard to digest and protect you. Let’s help it out with a little kindness."

  • "You do not have to 'fix' tonight or undo anything. You just need to help your body feel safe again."

Tonight was hard, but it is over now. Tomorrow is a fresh start, and your body deserves to be nourished, rested, and cared for—especially after a difficult night. Sleep gently knowing you are doing the best you can.
